Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) is a meme that was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. You can find a schedule of upcoming TTT topics on her blog!
Today’s topic is books that make me smile (submitted by Julia @ pagesforthoughts). This is such an interesting prompt because it forced me to look at not only humorous books, but any that brought me joy. Here’s what I came up with:
Books That Make Me Smile
10. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This book makes me smile because of its cheesy cuteness. It’s just such a relatable, feel-good story in the underappreciated NA category. Not to mention, we get our first glimpses of Simon and Baz!
9. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
Sorcery makes me smile for one reason: Silas. I just adore that unassuming, little demon. While I did enjoy this story for the romance and the epic libraries, Silas brought it home and made me actually love it. I wish I had a snarky demon companion of my own (without the whole slavery bit).
8. The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
While we are on the subject, Bartimaeus was my first introduction to the hilarity that is snarky demons. This series gives me fond memories of sarcastic banter and battles of wits. I wish they would consider it for a film adaptation, but I don’t want them to butcher it like they did Artemis Fowl.
7. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
I find a lot of pleasure in morally gray characters and this book features one of the best. It’s not often that female characters are written as morally gray, so I delighted in the MC’s wicked deeds and constant plotting.
6. Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
Good Omens is one of those books that just gets better every time I read it. The banter is everything, but even the plot is so out of left field that it makes smile just thinking about it. The TV adaptation was one of only a few that I thought did the book justice.
5. Angelfall by Susan Ee
A severely underrated series, Penryn & the End of Days is a dark and twisted angel story that features my favorite trope, enemies-to-lovers, in a delicious slow burn. When I say slow, I mean they still hate each other for most of the first book.
4. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
The last 4 books are some of my favorites. The entire TOG series makes me smile (pretty much anything by SJM does). I know this series is not for everyone, but I adored this conclusion. I cried, but I definitely smiled more than I cried.
3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Once again hate-to-love features strongly in this book. I loved reading it in a contemporary setting. Everything about this book makes me smile and I’m looking forward to the film adaptation. Fingers crossed they do right by it.
2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Once again SJM appears on the list, but I just adore this series. Enemies-to-lovers, SLOW burn, chapter 55, Illyrian wings… what’s not to love? Obviously many people find faults with this series, but I am not one of them. I guess I’m just easy to please.
1. High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning
I couldn’t make a list of books that make me smile without including a book from the Fever series. Honestly, I could include every book from this series on this list, but I found the Dani/Ryodan thread in High Voltage immensely satisfying. After Iced, these two became my favorite characters and I absolutely cried happy tears for the end of this book.
Have you read any of these books? Let me know what books made you smile. I’d love to add to my #neverendingTBR.
Great list! I loved Good Omens so much — I end up going back to it every so often, because it just always lifts my spirits. 🙂
Thanks! Me too. It’s a great one to return to.
I’ve read and loved all of these except 1, 7, and 8. I just finished Good Omens a couple days ago. The Hating Game has been one of my favorite reads this year! The Shadows Between Us is already on my TBR. I’m not familiar with 1 or 8. I’ll have to check those out!! Great list!!
The Fever series is my favorite series. It’s paranormal romance, but it’s a super slow burn so it’s not for everyone.
