Top 5 Saturday is a book meme created by Mandy at Devouring Books. This week’s prompt is Hyped Books. I’ve decided to share my top five most hyped books from my tbr list. Since I have not read any of these books, I don’t know if they live up to the hype. If you’ve read any of them, feel free to weigh in.
5. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
I read Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus years ago and loved it. There was so much hype surrounding The Starless Sea at the end of last year that I immediately ordered a copy. It’s not exceptionally long at just under 500 pages, but it looks huge sitting on my shelf. I know I’ll pick it up one of these days. I just haven’t been motivated to yet.
4. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
I’m a huge fan of Leigh Bardugo. I went to her release event for this book in NYC and waited (with my not so happy hubby) for over an hour to get it signed. Now, it sits on my shelf among all my other Bardugo books as the only unread one of the bunch. I haven’t read this yet because often when writers switch from YA to Adult, they tend to draw out the pacing of the book. For that reason, I have this fear that I will struggle through a few hundred pages and then DNF the rest.
3. Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Aurora Rising has sat on my shelf for over a year. In March of 2019 I read my first Kaufman/Kristoff book, Illuminae. I absolutely loved it and flew threw it in a day. I next read Nevernight, which is written solely by Jay Kristoff. I enjoyed the darker, more mature themes, but found the writing to be far denser, so I didn’t fly through it like I did Illuminae. I have yet to read on in either series even though I own Gemina and the rest of the Nevernight Chronicles. I suppose I feel like I must be in a Kristoff mood now to pick up another series.
2. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
Chain of Gold is the only book on this list that I do not already own. That is because I am still working my way through The Dark Artifices. I’ve only read up to Lord of Shadows, so I plan to finish that and Queen of Air and Darkness before beginning The Last Hours.
1. Crescent City by Sarah J Maas
I haven’t read this yet for the same reason that I haven’t read Ninth House. I’m always nervous about a favorite authors first foray into a new genre. There was (and still is) a ton of hype surrounding CC, but I’ve also heard there is an excess of world building and a slow plot.
Have you read any of these books? Let me know which one I should read first!

Great post! Aurora Rising is one of my favorite series, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🙂
Thanks! I’ve heard such good things. I’m sure I will love it when I finally get around to it.
So I loved Ninth House, but for a lot of people it was too dark. Just don’t expect it to be anything like the Grishaverse books, it is COMPLETELY different, but good. I haven’t read any of the other books, but they’re all on my TBR
I love grimdark so I think it will be right up my alley. My only concern is pacing. If it’s too slow, I’ll lose interest.
Hmm it isn’t super fast. It did hold my interest though. It was just very different from what I had anticipated. It was really cool and I think you should just give it a shot. I wouldn’t put it on the same level with the grishaverse books, but it was still memorable for sure.
I’ll definitely give it a try. I can’t turn down Bardugo!
I really liked it
