It’s August first already! Here is my TBR for another month. I’ll be completely honest. When I make my TBR for the month, I have every intention of reading those books, BUT between review reads and mood reading, I’m not always successful. So, here are some books that I would like to read in August.
They killed my mother.
They took our magic.
They tried to bury us.
Now we rise.
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.
Children of Blood and Bone is the selection for Haley and Her Book Club on Instagram this month. There is still time to join in if you’d like. Discussion posts are posted every Friday, but there is no requirement to comment on that day.
Linus Baker is a by-the-book case worker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. He’s tasked with determining whether six dangerous magical children are likely to bring about the end of the world.
Arthur Parnassus is the master of the orphanage. He would do anything to keep the children safe, even if it means the world will burn. And his secrets will come to light.
The House in the Cerulean Sea is an enchanting love story, masterfully told, about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours.
I have seen nothing, but amazing things about this book. I’m joining in with the BAB Book Club on Instagram for this one. Comment below if you’re interested in joining us and I’ll get you into the group chat. We have discussions every Sunday night and at the end we always show pictures of our fur babies!
During astronomy-lover Frankie’s first sexual experience with the quiet and lovely Benjamin, she gets her period. It’s only blood, they agree. No shame. But soon a graphic meme goes viral, turning their fun, intimate afternoon into something disgusting, mortifying and damaging. As the online shaming takes on a horrifying life of its own, Frankie begins to wonder: is her real life over?
I am participating in an ARC tour for Blood Moon through Masquerade Melody Book Tours, so I’ll be reading and reviewing this one later in the month. It has been a while since I read a contemporary book that is in verse. I’m interested to see how the story unfolds in the unique format.
Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny, but not big, important emotions—like grief. And love. He thinks he’s defective. His family knows better—that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.
As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down, thinking this could be the break her family needs. Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned. Esme’s lessons in love seem to be working…but only on herself. She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection.
With Esme’s time in the United States dwindling, Khai is forced to understand he’s been wrong all along. And there’s more than one way to love.
I read The Kiss Quotient last year and loved it. I’ve had The Bride Test sitting on my shelf just as long, but haven’t picked it up for some reason. I was really hoping to read more Contemporary Romance this Summer and it just hasn’t happened, so this is my month to do it! I can usually get through a romance in a day or two, so I don’t know why I constantly push them aside. I’m determined to start The Bride Test today.
A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.
It took me forever to find a hard copy of Beach Read. It was sold out for the longest time. I finally got my hands on one and now it’s just sitting on my shelf. I’m positive that I will just devour this book as soon as I start it, so hopefully I pick it up this month.
The first rule of book club: You don’t talk about book club.
Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott’s marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.
Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville’s top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it’ll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.
I have so many Contemporary Romance books on my shelf that it was hard to choose just a few to include in this month’s TBR. I decided to go with the most hyped ones, so hopefully that doesn’t burn me in the end. The Bromance Book Club seems like a unique spin on the traditional romance story since it is more from the guy’s perspective. I’ll let you know if I get around to reading it this month.
Well, there are my 6 official TBR books. I also have 2 review reads that I didn’t get to in July and 2 yet-to-be-determined reads for OUABC to add to this list. I really want to get a lot of reading done this month because September I go back to full-time work and I’m due with baby Asher on October 2nd, so I doubt I’ll get much reading done in either of those months.
What do you have planned to read this month? Let me know in the comments or share a link to your August tbr!
I’m also notorious for not following a TBR! You have some fun looking ones picked out!!
We’ll see if I stick to them!
