Hello Book-Lovers! Today, I will be discussing something a little different. Most of you know me as an avid reader and reviewer, but I also enjoy creative writing. I’ve been writing since high school, although I wasn’t serious about it until last year when I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo for the first time.

What is NaNoWriMo? It stands for National Novel Writing Month. Every November, writers across the globe attach themselves to their notebooks and laptops in an attempt to write 50,000 words (minimum to be considered a novel) in 30 days. You can find more information on this website.

As I said, this will be my second straight year participating. While I didn’t “win” last year, I was able to write over 33,000 words. I plan to work on the same novel this year, so my goal will be about 85,000 words. My work in progress (WIP) is a NA Fantasy, which tends to average about 80,000-100,000 words. I don’t have a title yet. In fact, I tend to use the name of my MC as the working title in all my WIPs, so this one is currently titled, Adara.

I’ve never shared my writing with anyone besides my mother, but I’m going out on a limb this year. Here is a short summary/blurb and aesthetic.

One born to heal.
One cursed to kill.

Adara Kenric possesses a rare healing talent. Not only do her own injuries heal at an accelerated rate, but with just one touch, she can absorb and heal the ailments of others. Rather than helping people, however, she’s forced to live a life of seclusion, hiding from those who would use her gift for their own gains. When a tragic event reveals her gift to the royal guard, she’s forced to flee everything she’s ever known. Now she’s on a quest to reclaim her freedom and find her place in the world.

Kaden Brant is known across his kingdom as the Cursed Prince. Despite his dark reputation, he’s poised to inherit the crown from his dying father. The only thing holding him back is an ancient law that insists all monarchs are married. If he fails to find a bride and secure his line before his father passes, the crown will pass to his cousin. Pressed for time and utterly unaccustomed to the ways of courting, Kaden reluctantly agrees to host an old-fashioned ball to find a wife. He never expects to find the answer to all his problems.

She could be his salvation, but will he be the death of her?

I’ll be posting more about my WIP and general NaNoWriMo updates throughout November. Let me know in the comments if you’re a writer and if you’ll be participating this year.
